The Katsurazawa Dam constructed in the upper reaches of the Ikushunbetsu River was completed in 1957. Lake Katsurazawa is known as an autumn leaf viewing spot, where the Mikasa Katsurazawa Koyo (autumn colors) Festival is held every October. The height of the dam is currently being raised to improve its flood control, irrigation and other functions. It will be reopened as the New Katsurazawa dam.
