The Shiribeshi-Toshibetsu River has been selected as the “river with the best water quality” in a nationwide first-class river water quality survey 20 times, the most in Japan.
The river flows through the center of Imakane Town and is the pride of the town’s residents.
Along the Shiribeshi-Toshibetsu River in the Kamioka district is Immanuel Hill, where Japan’s first female doctor, Ginko Ogino, and her husband settled.
