Sunagawa City Local History Reference Room is located in the community center.
The history, culture, and climate of the pioneering period are introduced here, and one of the most eye-catching features is a rather large diorama.
It shows how Sunagawa has developed around the Ishikari River since the Meiji Era.
It reproduces how trees upstream were actively transported in rafts to a lumberyard called Aba in Sunagawa during the Meiji era.
The museum also recreates how, during the heyday of the coal industry, high-quality gravel from the Ishikari River was extracted as a material for railroads.
Inside the museum, there are a number of vintage exhibits that look familiar to me.
