The first town where the Abashiri River, which originates from Mount Ahoro, flows through is the town of Tsubetsu.
It runs through rapids and makes abysses in the green season and descends to the Sea of Okhotsk.
After seeing the Abashiri River, stop by Roadside Station Aioi and take a walk in the railroad park where the old Japan National Railways Aioi Line ran for 60 years, and eat Tsubetsu Town’s specialty “Kumayaki”.
“Kumayaki” is a baked sweet shaped like a bear.
