This is the second event this year.
It was held in conjunction with the ongoing “Chitose Lake Shikotsu Hyobaku Festival” until February 24. I visited the site at around 5:30 p.m. on February 18.It was almost dark and we were able to see it from sunset.
The power plant is located about 4 km along the road from the Shikotsuko Onsen area to downtown Chitose, and it takes about 10 minutes from the parking lot to the observatory of the Chitose No. 1 Power Plant by walking along the tree-lined Onko Avenue.
I was thrilled to see the tree-lined streets of Onco lit up in green.
Trees near the power plant were also lit up brilliantly.
From the viewing platform, the power plant, located 130 meters below the valley floor, looked fantastic.
This is a bird’s-eye view of the power plants.
There are a total of five power plants on the Chitose River, including the No. 1 Power Plant, which was built in 1908 and transmits electricity to the Tomakomai Mill of Oji Paper Co.
Ltd. Tomakomai Mill. In addition, the Oji Paper hydroelectric power generation facilities on the Chitose River have been selected as a “Civil Engineering Heritage Site” by the Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE).
Hydroelectric power plants are a renewable energy source that does not emit greenhouse gases, and we hope that they will continue to be active for many years to come.
