Participating in a River-Drifting Monitor Tour
(Winter: Obihiro City to Tokachigawa Onsen)

In February, a monitor tour was held to develop an attractive new tourism experience along the route from central Obihiro to Tokachigawa Onsen.
Participants drifted down the Tokachi River by boat from downtown Obihiro, learning about winter birdlife as well as Tokachi’s history and the origins of the moor hot spring water through observations of the riverbank strata.
At Tokachigawa Onsen, the final destination of the boat journey, participants switched to fat bikes and visited a raclette cheese aging cellar that uses hot spring water. They also enjoyed a barbecue featuring local ingredients, including cheese.
Although the route covered only about seven kilometers from start to finish, it offered a remarkably rich and engaging experience. Further exploration of its appeal in different seasons is something to look forward to.
