Plum Grove and Wetland at Hiraoka Park (Sapporo)

On May 11, I visited Hiraoka Park to see the plum blossoms. The Hiraoka Plum Festival was being held at the time (April 26–May 18). According to the bloom report, the white plum blossoms had already fallen, while the red plum blossoms were in full bloom. Admission to the park is free.

I didn’t realize it before, but the park also has a wetland area, where clusters of skunk cabbage were growing.

Cherry blossoms are beautiful, but the pink plum blossoms are also vivid and stunning.

The pale blue flowers are Japanese plum (sumomo) blossoms.

Very popular! I enjoyed a plum soft-serve ice cream.

Following the signs toward the wetland area.

What is this plant? It turned out to be skunk cabbage.

Looking closer at the base, the flowers could be seen.
