“Mizube de Kanpai” is a nationwide movement encouraging people to raise a toast at waterfronts across Japan every year at 7:07 p.m. on July 7. Last year, more than 20,000 people participated nationwide, and the initiative has been gaining attention as a new way to enjoy and make use of waterfront spaces.
This year, three events were held in the Tokachi region.
● July 3 – Tokachi River (downstream of Tokachi Ohashi Bridge):
A toast was held following a river cleanup carried out by river management–related organizations.
● July 7 – Satsunai River:
The Tokachi Umakawa Project, which aims to conduct river patrols using horses, held a toast at the riverside.
● July 9 – Toshibetsu River:
With food trucks and booths run by high school students, participants raised a toast using Tokachi wine, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere.
