On Sunday, July 27, the “Mukawa–Sarugawa Cycling with Kawatabi × Hidaka Scenic Byway,” organized by the Hidaka Cycling Association, was held.
Approximately 40 cyclists rode a route of about 53 km, enjoying the attractions of both the Mukawa and Sarugawa rivers, known as the “Married rivers.”
At the rest stop at Yoshitsune Shrine in Biratori Town, participants listened to a very engaging talk in front of the Isabella Bird interpretive panel. Members of the “Association for Tracing Isabella Bird’s Route” explained the relationship between Ainu culture and Isabella Bird.
