As part of the winter event “2025 Ecopa Winter Festival” at Tokachi Ecology Park, the Ice Carousel Experience was held this year as an official hands-on activity, following a successful trial last winter.
The event took place on four designated Sundays and attracted many participants, including local residents and visitors. For the ice carousel, a circular section of ice was carefully cut from the frozen Onuma Pond. The ice disk measured approximately 12 meters in diameter and about 30 centimeters thick.
With gentle guidance from staff standing around the edge, the massive ice disk slowly began to rotate. Completing one full rotation in about 90 seconds, the ice carousel glided smoothly across the water, offering participants a mysterious and almost weightless floating sensation—an experience unlike any other.
