One of the signature winter events of Tokachigawa Onsen, “Sairinka”, is a magical light-and-sound fantasy staged at the Hanakku Plaza in Tokachigaoka Park. Around 600 light bulbs and LED lights illuminate the venue, creating a dreamlike nighttime landscape unique to winter in Tokachi.
This year, record-breaking snowfall in early February forced a temporary suspension of the event. However, it resumed on Saturday, February 8. About half of the glowing triangular structures were buried in snow, but soft light gently shone through the snowbanks, creating an atmosphere unlike that of previous years. Visitors were able to enjoy a special, once-in-a-year scene shaped by nature itself.
While the heavy snowfall was an unexpected challenge typical of outdoor winter events, the way the scenery transformed under different weather conditions became part of the charm—offering a beauty that could only be experienced this year.
