As a “Kawatabi” member, I accompanied a tour of the Uryu No. 1 Dam and Uryu No. 2 Dam for residents of the Shumarinai, Soeushinai, and Moshiri autonomous communities in Horokanai Town.
The two dams were originally designed exclusively for power generation, but a portion of the dam has been shifted to flood control, and the Uryu No. 2 Dam has been raised to strengthen its flood control function.
Usually access to the dam is restricted, but on this day, visitors were guided to the dam embankment and audit corridor, and the local people were very satisfied to see the rarely seen dam.
◎Uryu No. 1 Dam…Visitors eagerly listened to explanations and took commemorative photos at the embankment, which is normally closed to the public.
◎Uryu No. 2 Dam…After taking a commemorative photo downstream of the dam, we went to the dam embankment. A mini-concert was held in the dam’s auditorium with the lights turned off.
