Kushiro River

The Kushiro River is a large river representative of eastern Hokkaido. Its abundant water has supported the lives of locals for 10,000 years since ancient times. The river flows endlessly while meandering through Kushiro Shitsugen, which is Japan’s largest wetland, with the glowing sun and green of trees reflected on its surface. Its appearance makes one feel the grandeur and tenderness of the surrounding nature.
The Kushiro River that flows calmly through Kushiro Shitsugen wetland is popular for canoeing. The activity attracts both locals and tourists as seasonal natural features can be experienced while canoeing down the river.
