Report on Participation in the Adventure Travel World Summit

The Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS), the first international summit on experiential tourism to be held in Asia, was held in the province from September 11, 2023.
On the first day of the event on September 11, 31 “Day of Adventure” (DOA) tours were conducted in Hokkaido.Among them were two cycling tours along the Toyohira and Ishikari Rivers.

One tour was a combination of cycling up the Toyohira River and climbing Mt.Hachikenzan.
The other was an 83-km round-trip course downstream to Hamanasu-no-Oka Park in Ishikari City. Hamanasu is the name of a flower. The “rugosa rose.”
Each tour was well attended by more than 10 foreign and Japanese participants.

Participants gathered in front of the Sapporo Park Hotel, the departure and arrival point for both tours. It is time to depart.


Participants receiving an explanation at the Salmon Science Museum. From here, the downstream group will head for Hamanasu-no-Oka Park, while the upstream group will head for Mt. Hachikenzan.

 

The downstream group will pass under the Munich Bridge and head for “Hamanasu-no-Oka Park”.

 

This is “Hamanasu-no-Oka Park,” the destination of the downstream group.


This is the top of “Mt.Hachikenzan,” the destination of the upstream group. The elevation is less than 500 meters, but the steep cliffs on both sides of the peak are very thrilling.


The downstream group had lunch at “Kindatei” in Ishikari City.


The upstream group had lunch at “Hachikenzan Orchard” in Sapporo City.

The Kita 24-jo Sakura Bridge, which just opened on August 4, is in the background.
