Makunbetsu Marsh is a lowland marsh covering approximately 130 hectares on the left bank of the Ishikari River, upstream from the Ishikarigawa-Kako bridge, featuring extensive stands of alder forests and reed beds.
From mid-April, skunk cabbages bloom beneath the alder forests, forming vast colonies.
