Salmon Hometown Chitose Aquarium has one of the largest freshwater tanks in Japan. Visitors can enjoy observing a wide variety of freshwater creatures from all over the world, with a focus on salmon and other freshwater fish from Hokkaido. Of particular interest is the “Underwater Observation Zone” where you can directly view the Chitose River. This is a unique facility where you can observe the seasonal activities of the creatures living in the Chitose River up close.
The “Experience Zone” is very popular among families. You can interact with many living creatures, including a touch pool with transparent acrylic around the entire circumference where Japanese daces and baby sturgeon swim, a doctor fish experience, and a red swamp crawfish fishing pond (seasonal exhibit).
There are also many events such as the release of salmon fry and special exhibitions. Why don’t you visit this aquarium when you come to Chitose?
