This is a report on the Ice Carousel @ Lake Kanayama demonstration test held at the Kanayama Dam on Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
An ice carousel is a winter activity of Scandinavian origin, in which ice from the lake is cut into a circle 15 meters in diameter and rotated on the lake.
Since this was a one-day demonstration experiment, many people visited the site that day, including local government officials, people from the tourism association, teachers, and students from nearby municipalities.
Participants enjoyed themselves by riding on the spinning ice, lying on their backs, dancing, and so on. Television and newspaper companies were also on hand to cover the event.
Fishing for wakasagi (Japanese smelt) is a well-known winter waterfront activity at Lake Kanayama, and we hope this event will be continued.
