At the Wakamatsu Ohashi Bridge in Kitami, I enjoyed the sunlit flow of the Tokoro River before heading a few minutes away to the Kitami Mint Memorial Museum. The “Kitami Mint” once accounted for about 70% of the world’s mint market, contributing significantly to the region’s development.Adjacent to the museum, the Mint Distillation House displays distillation equipment from that era, including the Tanaka-style mint distillation kettle. The museum also recreates the process of extracting oil from steam, known as “tori-oroshi oil.”
