A Leisurely Walk Among Lily of the Valley and Rapeseed Flowers
This week, I visited the lily of the valley colony in the Memu area of Biratori Town, as well as the rapeseed flower fields in Abira Town. I am sharing the experience through photos and a video.

◆Nibutani Dam
When I stopped by Nibutani Dam, the reservoir was glowing in a stunning emerald green. I immediately took in the view from the left-bank observation deck. I have visited many times over the years, but this was the first time I had ever seen “Nibutani Lake” in such a vivid color. Truly a beautiful blue lake of Nibutani.

This is the Nibutani Management Bridge, located just downstream of the confluence with the Nukabira River upstream of the dam. Looking down at the Saru River from here, the water was so clear that the riverbed was visible. This exceptional clarity may be seasonal, but it could also be related to the striking color of the reservoir that day.
◆Biratori Dam

I planned to stop by Biratori Dam as well, but access was restricted until later this month.
◆ Lily of the Valley Colony, Memu Area (Biratori Town)
The Lily of the Valley Viewing Event with food stalls and shops ran until Sunday, June 1. After that, the site remains open to the public only until Sunday, June 8, allowing visitors to enjoy the flowers in a quieter setting.
◆Rapeseed Flower Fields (Abira Town)
In Abira Town, the “Rapeseed Flower Walk” event, which included a bus tour visiting six different rapeseed fields, ended on Sunday, June 1. Even after the event, the fields can still be viewed. However, only limited sites have parking, and stopping or parking on public roads is strictly prohibited.
At Roadside Station* “Abira D51 Station,” you can find the 2025 Rapeseed Flower Map, which clearly shows the locations of the fields and whether parking is available. The map is also available on the Abira Town official website.

The photo above shows Rapeseed Flower Field No. 6, the largest field featured on the map. This site also has a large parking area, making it especially convenient for visitors.
