The Saru Headworks downstream of the dam (whose water intake function was transferred to Nibutani Dam in 1997), along with the hump-shaped mountain behind it and the surrounding area, have been designated by the national government as a “Cultural Landscape of the Saru River Basin through Ainu Tradition and Modern Pioneering.” From the Nibutani Management Bridge upstream of the dam, visitors can view the landscape where the Nukabira River joins the Saru River, which has frozen over and become a snowy plain.
