The Hokkai Heso Festival is a celebration inspired by the fact that Furano City is the geographical center of Hokkaido. It is a lively festival where participants draw faces on their stomachs and dance while hiding their heads under large straw hats.
※  “Heso” refers to the “belly button.”

It has become one of Hokkaido’s signature summer festivals, attracting tourists not only from within Hokkaido but also from across Japan and overseas. The event will mark its 58th anniversary in 2026.
